Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 Pro official with 144Hz screens, SSD-based storage, 120W fast charging, and more
The 4500 mAh battery is charged via the provided 120W charger in the box. At first I thought it was overkill, but considering that the battery was only able to last about a day on a single charge as a gamer, being able to charge back to full under 20 minutes offsets that problem. This however, is proprietary technology, so you can’t just use any 120W charger AND cable.
In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 870 is used as the SoC, so it is not the absolute top league in terms of performance, but it is still a powerful processor. Thus, the review sample is superior to its predecessor Black Shark 3 by about 10% in some areas in terms of performance.
- Therefore, if you want a device with a good battery life, you should pay attention to the battery segmentation on the device.
- As far as I can tell, the only thing the 888 has over the newer model is its battery life, but honestly, that feels like splitting hairs.
- Not all modern devices have good audio and sound quality, with many only being average.
The two top sliders reveal a left and right trigger button which can be custom mapped, via their Shark Center app, to any two A and B points on the screen. Having highly responsive physical buttons helped transform me from one of the worst at mobile shooters, to crushing the leaderboards. Equipped with a massive 6.67-inch AMOLED screen that supports HDR10+, you’ll see impressively deep blacks and vibrant colors. Everything has a very punchy pop and combined with its size, this makes it great for watching movies and browsing the web.
While yes, the bottom middle is the most obvious and commonplace for the port, charging the phone and gaming at the same time can be very awkward, causing your hand to cramp as you try to hold and play around it. Moving the port to say the middle left or right side would have been a unique feature and way for a gaming phone such as this to distinguish itself from a “traditional phone”.
The gamer-ish look and feel is great for a small audience, but others may be looking for something that just isn’t quite awkward to be caught with in public. You may need to do some work on removing some of these visual tweaks. Plus, you’re stuck with Android 11 instead of the more recent Android 12 for now and all mobile firmwares so far, there’s been no word on how many Android versions or security updates you will receive. As for video, it is technically capable of shooting 4K, but really, you already know where this is going.
